From Fossils to Flavours: The Story of Jurassic Gin

Some spirits tell the story of a distiller. Some tell the story of a place. Jurassic Gin tells the story of time itself — 152 million years of it

Jurassic Gin was born in the canton of Jura in Switzerland, a region whose name alone carries the weight of deep geological history. It is a landscape shaped by the prehistoric era that bears its name — the Jurassic period — and it is from this extraordinary natural heritage that the gin draws both its identity and its soul.

The guiding botanical is ginkgo biloba, one of the most ancient plant species on Earth, predating the dinosaurs by 40 million years and surviving largely unchanged to the present day. It is a remarkable choice for a signature ingredient: a living fossil that connects every sip to a world that existed long before human memory. Around it, twelve additional rigorously selected plants complete an exclusive composition of thirteen botanicals, building a gin of genuine aromatic complexity and character.

The result is something that goes well beyond a flavored spirit. Jurassic Gin is, in the words of its creators, an immersion in time, designed to be enjoyed in a refined cocktail or simply on ice, offering an unforgettable sensory experience that is, quite literally, a journey through the ages.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, Jurassic Gin opens with clear, very fresh aromas: scented juniper, a touch of coriander, and elegant notes of sandalwood lifted by a distinctive hint of mandarin. The aromatic profile is refined and inviting, complex without being demanding.

On the palate, the gin is soft and silky, with a herbaceous-spicy character. Mandarin notes are clearly expressed and carry through to a lingering, elegant finish. Aromas of juniper and fresh herbs open onto a spicy, generous mid-palate enhanced by hints of cucumber and stone fruit, with a long botanical finish that rewards contemplation. The overall impression is one of harmonious balance: spicy and fruity notes working in concert, with the citrus touches of lime and mandarin complementing the juniper foundation in a way that feels both natural and considered.

Award-Winning From the Start

Jurassic Gin has accumulated an exceptional collection of international accolades in a remarkably short time, earning recognition from some of the most respected spirits competitions in the world.

The gin first made its mark at the Swiss Spirits Review 2023, earning a Silver Medal with 87 points during a blind tasting among approximately one hundred gins, judged by professional bartenders and spirits experts. That foundation was built upon substantially the following year, when Jurassic Gin claimed Gold Medals at both the London Spirits Competition 2024, where it was awarded 95 point, and the Frankfurt International Trophy 2024.

Recognition continued to grow in 2025 across an impressive range of international stages. A Bronze Medal at the International Wine and Spirit Competition was followed by a Gold Medal at the Gin Guide Awards in England. At Gin Fest Lausanne 2025, a distinguished panel that included Gault & Millau journalist Siméon Calame, spirits merchant Thierry Cloux, food writer David Moginier, and Alessandro Cogoni — named Switzerland's Best Barman 2024 at the Swiss Bar Awards — tasted entries from 27 Swiss brands and awarded Jurassic Gin the gold medal, confirming its standing among the finest gins produced in Switzerland.

At the USA Spirits Ratings 2025 in San Francisco, the gin earned a Gold Medal with 91 points, with jury tasting notes describing aromas of juniper and fresh herbs opening onto a spicy, generous palate enhanced by hints of cucumber and stone fruit, with a lingering botanical finish. A Bronze Medal followed at the Concours Suisse des produits du terroir in Courtemelon, a biennial celebration of Swiss regional products that carries particular resonance for a gin so deeply rooted in its Jurassien origins.

The most celebrated result came from Falstaff Spirits Tasting 2025, where Jurassic Gin received an exceptional score of 96 points, a remarkable achievement by any standard, and a testament to the quality and precision of the distillery's craft.

In 2025–2026, Jurassic Gin won its category at the DistiSuisse National Competition — one of Switzerland's most prestigious domestic spirits awards — with a score of 95 out of 100 in the juniper berry-based spirits category. Most recently, the gin was awarded a Gold Medal at the European Spirits Challenge 2026, held at London County Hall alongside the Thames, cementing its place among the leading craft gins of Europe.

A Spirit of Place

What distinguishes Jurassic Gin from the many excellent Swiss craft gins that have emerged in recent years is the coherence of its concept. The story of the Jura — its ancient geology, its prehistoric landscapes, its deep natural heritage — is the foundation upon which every decision, from botanical selection to bottle design, has been made. The ginkgo biloba at the heart of the recipe is a philosophical statement: that this gin belongs to a continuum of natural history that stretches back further than imagination can reach, and that a great spirit, like a great landscape, is shaped by forces larger than any single moment in time.

Jurassic Gin is actively seeking importer and distribution partners across the European Union. UK and Asia. Inquiries regarding sample orders, pricing, and partnership terms are welcomed.
