Walsh Whiskey has launched the 2019 vintage of Writers’ Tears Cask Strength, marking the ninth annual release of this super-premium expression.

The 2019 vintage, which is limited to 3,780 bottles worldwide, was presented at an Irish Whiskey Society event in Dublin on 25 July.

Writers’ Tears Cask Strength is triple distilled, natural non-chill filtered and aged in Bourbon barrels and bottled at 53% ABV. The bottles are numbered and signed by Walsh Whiskey Founder and Managing Director Bernard Walsh.

The 2019 vintage is rolling out to selected markets worldwide, with 1,200 bottles destined for the US. Other markets include Ireland, the UK, Canada (Alberta & British Columbia), France and the Netherlands. It will be available in selected travel retail outlets through Lagardère Travel Retail and ARI (The Loop) at Dublin Airport and at Shannon Duty-Free, Shannon Airport, with an RRP of €130.

Bernard Walsh said the limited release is “eagerly anticipated” every year.

On the nose, Writers’ Tears Cask Strength 2019 offers a natural sweetness with notes of spice and cracked black pepper. Its taste includes hints of roasted walnuts, honeyed oats, sugar-dusted raisins, and apricot. According to Walsh Whiskey, the expression offers a finish of salted caramel with a lingering sweetness.
