A. Smith Bowman Distillery in Spotsylvania County has been awarded a double gold medal for its Deep Run Vodka at the 2017 San Francisco World Spirits Competition.

A double gold is the highest honor in the competition and is awarded only if every judge gives it a gold medal. Only a few entries receive a double gold.

Two other Smith Bowman spirits were also recognized at the competition, in which 43 spirits experts judged more than 2,100 spirits from around the world. John J. Bowman Single Barrel Virginia Straight Bourbon was awarded gold and Bowman Brothers Small Batch Virginia Straight Bourbon received silver.

The San Francisco World Spirits Competition is associated with the Triple Crown of Competitions along with The San Francisco International Wine Competition and New York World Wine and Spirits Competition.
