Mezcal Tanguyu
Oaxaca’s Artisanal Spirit, Now Ready for Asia

A handcrafted mezcal rooted in Zapotec tradition, made for those seeking nuance, authenticity, and market-ready distinction.

About Us

Mezcal Tanguyu is an artisanal mezcal producer based in Oaxaca, Mexico—home to some of the richest traditions in agave distillation. Produced using time-honored methods, Tanguyu is born from a double distillation process and crafted by master mezcaleros who blend at precisely the right moment to achieve balance, purity, and complexity in every bottle. Each drop is a tribute to Oaxaca’s soil, its culture, and its centuries-old mezcal-making heritage.

The brand name “Tanguyu,” meaning Clay Doll in the indigenous Zapotec language, honors the cultural legacy of the Zapotec people. These dolls were once gifted to girls in December and have long symbolized continuity, tradition, and family — all values that are woven into our story and our spirit.

Speciality

We work with both cultivated and wild agaves, including:

  • Espadín
  • Tóbala
  • Sierra Negra
  • Tepeztate
  • Mexicano
  • Cuishe

This wide variety of agaves gives Mezcal Tanguyu a flavor spectrum unlike most commercial offerings—from earthy and smoky to sweet, herbal, and spicy. Each expression offers a layered tasting experience that appeals to connoisseurs and curious consumers alike.

Our Unique Edge

Traditional wood-fired earthen ovens and copper stills
Wild agaves from biodiverse Oaxacan regions
A production ethos rooted in Zapotec rituals and craft
