Craft, Character, and Cultural Currency: The Poetry Vodka Proposition
Handcrafted in a family-owned Polish distillery and co-founded by Eurythmics legend Dave Stewart, Poetry Vodka is the premium listing that brings both quality and conversation to the shelf
The premium spirits category continues to see a volume growth across global markets, driven by consumers who increasingly seek authenticity, provenance, and narrative alongside quality. And Poetry Vodka is purpose-built for this moment. Handcrafted in a third-generation Polish distillery, co-founded by a culturally resonant figure, and delivered in a bottle designed to spark conversation, Poetry Vodka offers trade buyers a compelling proposition at the premium end of the vodka shelf. Poetry Vodka is produced from a blend of locally sourced rye and wheat, grown by farmers in close proximity to the distillery. Sustainable crop rotation is employed to preserve soil integrity, a commitment that reflects the brand's broader ethos of responsible, considered production.
Production & Quality Credentials
Poetry Vodka is distilled six times, yielding a spirit of exceptional purity: crystal clear, with a soft, refined mouthfeel. The vodka is then passed through a proprietary multi-stage filtration process that removes impurities while retaining the characteristic grain-derived character that distinguishes it from commodity-tier alternatives. Production takes place in a historic, family-owned distillery in Poland with centuries of distilling heritage. The facility operates on renewable energy, reflecting a modern sustainability ethos without compromising on the craft traditions that underpin the spirit's quality.
Tasting Notes
Poetry Vodka delivers a layered sensory experience that rewards both the neat drinker and the cocktail practitioner:
Palate: Sweetness led — cherries, plums, and a spicy rye note with a hint of pepper.
Finish: Oily and lingering — black olives, sunflower seeds, pepper, cardamom, and sun-dried tomatoes.
Overall: Silky texture, clean finish. Equally suited to a premium Martini or served as a chilled shot.
Brand Story & Founder Credentials
Poetry Vodka was born from a chance connection between two individuals with complementary strengths: Dave Stewart — co-founder of the Eurythmics and one of Britain's most celebrated music producers — and Johan Holgersson, a Swedish-born entrepreneur based in Switzerland with a sharp commercial background.
The concept originated with Dave's long-standing personal ritual: a single vodka martini each evening, a habit he developed in Paris in the 1980s as a creative reset at the end of the working day. Having developed a precise vision for the kind of vodka he wanted — playful yet refined, smooth with a touch of complexity — he approached Johan in early 2022. Within minutes of the call, they had decided on vodka. The pair sourced a third-generation, family-owned Polish distillery through Johan's existing business network. Blind tasting trials, conducted in London, produced a unanimous verdict in favour of the wheat and rye blend now at the heart of the product. The first commercial bottles were available in time for Dave's 70th birthday in Sunderland in 2022.
Since then, brand and operations director Tess has been brought on board to establish brand design, activation, and positioning. Despite the challenges typical of any spirits start-up, including logistical complications, trademark navigation, and market-specific regulatory requirements, Poetry Vodka has been built with a solid commercial infrastructure and a clear vision for the premium market.
"I've tried every vodka you can imagine over the years of making martinis. There was something about the taste of this one — its viscosity and smoothness — that was completely different," claims Dave Stewart, Co-Founder of Poetry Vodka.
The Commercial Case for Stocking Poetry Vodka
The premium and ultra-premium vodka segment continues to show resilience and growth in both on-trade and off-trade channels. Consumers at this end of the market are motivated by brand authenticity, origin story, and cultural alignment, all areas where Poetry Vodka is strongly positioned.
1. Authentic Craft Provenance
Six-times distilled in a family-owned, third-generation Polish distillery using sustainable practices. The production story is credible, verifiable, and compelling, precisely the kind of narrative that resonates with premium on-trade and specialist off-trade buyers.
2. Culturally Credible Founders
Dave Stewart's status as a cultural icon gives Poetry Vodka genuine media traction and organic credibility. This is not a celebrity-endorsed product but a founder-led brand, a distinction that resonates with today's discerning consumer and trade buyer alike.
3. Distinctive Flavour Profile
The rye and wheat grain bill delivers a flavour profile that sets Poetry apart on the back bar. Its versatility — equally at home in a premium Martini as it is in a neat pour — broadens its appeal across multiple consumption occasions.
4. Strong On-Trade Activation Potential
The brand's creative identity and founder profile lend themselves naturally to events, collaborations, and storytelling-led activations. The bottle itself is designed as a conversation piece, a visual differentiator on the back bar and in retail environments.
5. Sustainability Credentials
Produced using renewable energy, with locally sourced grain and sustainable farming practices, Poetry Vodka meets the growing demand from both consumers and buyers for spirits with a credible environmental commitment.
Poetry Vodka is a well-timed entry into a category where authenticity and provenance are prerequisites to any brand narrative. With a production story that stands up to scrutiny, a flavour profile that performs across multiple serves, and a foundation that drives genuine consumer interest, it is a brand built for the premium tier. For trade buyers looking to add depth and distinction to their vodka ranging, the case for Poetry is clear.
