Strand Fundraiser Highlights French Wine

EVENT: Taste of France to include samples of wines from Gerard Bertrand's portfolio

31/03/2017

PLATTSBURGH — Several award-winning French wines will be in the spotlight at the Strand Center for the Arts on Saturday, April 1.

A Taste of France is a fundraiser for the center, sponsored by Liquor and Wine Warehouse and Southern Glazer’s Wine and Spirits.

Showcased will be nine wines from the award-winning Gerard Bertrand portfolio. And the evening includes a chance to win one of two bottles of Bertrand’s 2013 Clos d’Ora.

Southern Glazer Wine and Spirits Sales Consultant Randell Brown said the Clos d’Ora received a 99 rating by Wine Enthusiast and is valued at $250.

“The quality of his wines is exceptional,” Brown said. “He’s very passionate about wine-making.”

CULTURE NEEDED

Bertrand was born and raised in southern France. He started to learn the wine-making craft with his father at the age of 10, and his label now covers 15 estate vineyards in that region.

The event features special guest Nicholas Galy, Northeast regional sales manager for Gerard Bertrand

Wines. He is also a well-recognized French wine authority and will be available to discuss the various vintages being served that night and answer other wine-related questions.

“He’s an expert in the field,” said Liquor and Wine Warehouse owner Steve Carpenter, who is providing all of the wine for the event.

Carpenter said he and his wife, Carol, are proud to support the community. They receive several requests every week and try to help as often as they can.

In this case, he said, it is especially rewarding to sponsor an event that will benefit the Strand Center and its efforts to provide arts programming to the region.

“As new residents move into the area, we need that cultural aspect,” Mr. Carpenter said. “The Strand can provide that.

“By buying a ticket, you are supporting this community.”
