Cyprus Gets Recognition in Achieving Progress in Viticulture and Wine Quality
The progress achieved in Cypriot viticulture in recent years and the improvement in the quality of Cypriot wines was recognized on Friday in the context of a meeting between Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment Minister Nicos Kouyialis with International Organisation of Vine and Wine (OIV) head Jean-Marie Aurand.
Kouyialis and Aurand had a meeting in the margins of the 9th Pancyprian Wine Competition, an official press release says.
`In an extremely competitive environment where 43% of wines produced globally are exported to nearly all other countries, the particular characteristics of Cypriot indigenous wine varieties can make the difference for Cyprus’ wine produce and strengthen our presence in the global wine map which would in turn greatly benefit our economy,` the Cypriot minister said.
