7 things not to miss at Canberra District Wine Week 2017

The celebration of all things Canberra wine is back for 2017 with an entire week dedicated to showing off local drops.

21/03/2017

From March 31-April 9 there's tastings, chances to chat with the winemakers, and one-off lunches and dinners, where food is matched with the wine and not the other way around.

Here's our pick of what not to miss at Canberra District Wine Week 2017.

1. THE WINEMAKERS DINNER

It all starts with the winemaker. Meet the makers behind Gallagher Wines, Lark Hill Biodynamic Wines, Collector Wines, Capital Wines, Clonakilla and Mount Majura Vineyard - and of course taste their wines - at this dinner at Aubergine. The wines will be matched with a locally-sourced dinner from Aubergine's Ben Willis.

Tuesday April 4, 6.30pm. Aubergine. $150 per person. Strictly 48 tickets available.

2. GIRLS NIGHT OUT

How's this for an equation: wine + cheese + the movies + getting the ladies together? It has all of the makings of a pretty delightful Friday evening. Kerralee Wines and Shaw Vineyard Estate are hosting a wine tasting with gourmet cheese and nibbles in the Palace Cinemas foyer, before a 7pm screening of The Dressmaker, starring Kate Winslet, Judy Davis, Liam Hemsworth and Hugo Weaving.

Friday April 7, 6pm. Palace Cinemas, New Acton. $35 per person.

3. TASTE OF THE REGION LONG LUNCH

Top notch wine and produce calls for long, leisurely lunches. And at this lunch in Yass, nothing that hits your plate or glass has travelled very far at all. As well as wines from Mallaluka, Long Rail Gully, Yarrh, Dog Trap Vineyard and Ellenvale, there's produce from Thyme to Taste, Le Barre Olive Oil, Clementine, Ewe 'N Me, and Robyn Rowe.

Friday April 7, midday. Banjo Paterson Park, Meehan Street, Yass. $120 per person.

4. A TASTE OF TEMPRANILLO

Mount Majura Vineyard's Frank van de Loo will host a night dedicated to the Spanish grape of Tempranillo. Start the night with sparkling and canapes before delving into the world of Tempranillos - with both wines from Spain and Mount Majura Vineyard. Matched with a four course menu with three wines per course.

Thursday April 6, 6.30pm. The Boat House. Tickets $140 per person.
