Houston Breweries Will Produce ‘Black is Beautiful’ Beer to Raise Funds for Police Brutality Reform
Astral Brewing and other local beer makers joined breweries across the country to raise money in the aftermath of George Floyd’s killing
According to the houston, Several Houston breweries have joined forces with beer-makers across the country to produce a “Black Is Beautiful” beer that will raise money for organizations working on police reform.
The initiative, organized by Weathered Souls Brewing Company in San Antonio, encourages breweries to produce their own riff on Weathered Soul’s Black Is Beautiful oatmeal stout and donate all proceeds to “local foundations that support police brutality reform and legal defenses for those who have been wronged,” along with a pledge from each brewery to commit to the “long-term work of equality.”
According to the project’s website, breweries in 35 states across the country have signed up to produce the Black Is Beautiful beer, including Battlehops Brewing in Katy, and Houston’s own Ingenious Brewing, Sigma Brewing Company, and Urban South Brewing Company, Astral Brewing, and Holler Brewing Company.
