Terlato Acquires Washington’s Klipsun Vineyards

Shanken News Daily reports that the importer’s wine division will produce a Washington wine

22/04/2017

Terlato Wine Group has made its first move into Washington state with the purchase of Klipsun Vineyards. Located within the Red Mountain AVA, Klipsun spans 120 acres and is best known for Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot. The purchase price was not disclosed.

Klipsun’s vineyards have supplied fruit to numerous Washington wineries, including Quilceda Creek, Seven Hills, Col Solare and Betz Family, among others. According to Shanken News Daily, a sister site of Wine Spectator, Terlato plans to continue selling Klipsun’s grapes to winemakers.

Klipsun hasn’t made its own wine in the past, but Terlato aims to change that. While still selling fruit to other producers, Terlato tells SND it intends to market a Klipsun wine looking ahead, giving the company its first foothold in the burgeoning Washington category.

Klipsun Vineyards joins a Terlato vineyard portfolio that also includes Chimney Rock, Mee Lane, Pope Valley and the Estate Vineyard at Rutherford Hill in Napa Valley; Sanford & Benedict and La Rinconada in the Sta. Rita Hills; Malakoff Vineyard in Victoria, Australia; and holdings in Friuli Colli Orientali, Italy. —Christina Jelski
