Bodega Numanthia is pleased to announce its top ratings received from Wine Spectator.

20/05/2017

Bodega Numanthia is pleased to announce its top ratings received from Wine Spectator.  Wine Spectator’s March 2017 edition rated Numanthia Numanthia atop the competitive set with an exceptional 93 points for the 2012 vintage.  In Wine Spectator’s July 2016 edition, Numanthia Termanthia 2012 earned 95 points. Most recently, Wine Spectator awarded 90 points to Numanthia Termes 2013. Historically known for high scores, these, however, are Numanthia’s highest ratings since the celebrated 2006 and 2004 vintages. These scores reflect the continuous quest for excellence at the winery. Respectively, Numanthia Numanthia 2011 and Numanthia Numanthia 2010 earned 92 points.  Numanthia Termanthia 2011 earned 93 points.

In the context of Spanish wine, Numanthia 2012 and Termanthia 2012 now stand above their competitors.  Located 100 miles outside of Madrid, Toro’s inhospitable terroir affords it an unusual opportunity to create world-class wines. It is on clay plateaus and slopes where the seventy to one hundred and twenty-year-old vines endure the extreme continental climate with hot summer temperatures of up to 110° F and winters that dip 30 degrees below freezing and average less than sixteen inches of annual rainfall.

Bodega Numanthia is proud to maintain the legacy of Toro’s winemaking. We are honored to share our wines with the world to highlight this region as another expression of Spain’s dynamic wine offerings. The 2012 vintage was particularly warm and dry, with less than eight inches of total rainfall producing grapes with a beautiful maturity and even more intense concentration than usual” Said estate director Lucas Lowi.

Numanthia 2012 – 93 Points (Wine Spectator, March 2017)

SRP: $73

“This rich, generous red delivers plum pudding, dark chocolate, and baking spice flavors, with loamy earth and licorice notes.  The tannins are muscular.” – Thomas Matthews, Executive Editor, NY

Termanthia 2012 – 95 Points (Wine Spectator, March 2016)

SRP: $228

“Dense and polished, this red is muscular yet balanced, with firm, well-integrated tannins and lively acidity supporting rich flavors of blackberry, cocoa, licorice, and minerals.  Monolithic now, but has real depth.” – Thomas Matthews, Executive Editor, NY

Termes 2013 – 90 Points (Wine Spectator, May 2017)

SRP: $30

“Tarry and sanguine notes give an austere character to this firm red, but there’s a core of plum and blackberry flavors, along with licorice and mineral notes, and the muscular tannins and balsamic acidity are rugged but balanced. Best from 2019 through 2029. 8,500 cases made.” –Thomas Matthews, Executive Editor, NY
