Hermitage Cognac has released a rare and very limited run of 60-year-old Grande Champagne Cognac dubbed ‘Marie Louise’.

Bottled in one litre decanters made by Cumbria Crystal, the Cognac comes from “one of the region’s top artisan producers,” according to Hermitage Cognac’s managing director, David Baker.

Just 50 decanters of the rare spirit have been released and will go on sale in the UK later this month.

Speaking of the Cognac itself Baker said when he first tasted it he could tell it was, “going to be one of the finest we have ever offered.”

He added: “It’s like lining your mouth with velvet, with a full and refined aroma of muscat grape, nutmeg, baked apple, toast and walnut.

“It has a complex, glorious taste of sultanas, truffle, toffee brittle, coffee, dried fig cinnamon, clove and hazelnut all wrapped up in an intensely rich rancio, found only in the rarest of Cognacs.“
