Bladnoch Debuts £5,000 Bicentennial Single Malt

Reawakened Bladnoch Distillery has launched a 29-year-old single malt Scotch whiskey to mark its 200-year anniversary, priced at £5,000 (US$6,980).

15/03/2018

The Bladnoch Bicentennial Release is a celebration of the Lowland distillery’s history and a toast to its new chapter.

In 2015, Bladnoch Distillery restarted production after the site was acquired by Australian businessman David Prior.

Limited to 200 bottles, the expression is made from two casks of whiskey distilled in 1988.

Initially matured in Oloroso Sherry casks, the 41.2% abv whiskey has been finished for the last 18 months in Moscatel casks.

“Chestnut gold in color, our bicentennial release has lovely rich Sherry and acacia aromas, with notes of dark chocolate, sweet oak and citrus with a long and satisfying finish,” said master distiller, Ian Macmillan.

“This is a fantastic whiskey to mark this incredible milestone and I’d say it is best enjoyed shared, and savored, with friends and family.”

The expression is presented in a glass bottle with a gold stopper, designed by Prior.

Prior added: “In the last three years, we have significantly invested in Bladnoch to revive whiskey production, as we strive to give Scotland’s most southerly distillery back its true title as the ‘Queen of the Lowlands’.

“We may be celebrating the 200th anniversary of the distillery, but Bladnoch’s renaissance chapter is only just beginning.”

Bladnoch Bicentennial Release will be available in select international markets for an RRP of £5,000 per bottle.

In January last year, Bladnoch Distillery unveiled a trio of single malt Scotch whiskeys, the first releases from the 200-year-old site since it ceased production eight years ago.
