Hansa Brewery and Platform Beer Co. - two breweries located on the same street just a few blocks apart from each other - were awarded medals in the 17th Los Angeles International Beer Competition.

The competition drew 1,500 entries in an astounding 95 style categories.

Hansa and brewer Corey Miller won three medals:

* Silver, English Brown Ale - BYE Felicia! Nut Brown Ale.

* Bronze, Historical Beer - Winzig Haus Bier, Lichtenhainer, a German Smoked Sour Ale.

* Honorable Mention, German Schwarzbier - Black Flag, SchwarzBier.

Platform won a silver in the German-Style Sour Ale category for Shanghai Noon.

Established Northeast Ohio breweries win awards on a consistent basis in assorted competitions and are lauded in national media rankings. The folks at Fat Head's have turned the Great American Beer Festival into their own personal dynasty, garnering medals for several years. Hoppin' Frog lands high on ratebeer.com rankings. Thirsty Dog repeatedly has won Ohio Brewery of the Year at the New York International Beer Competition. And Great Lakes earns attention for several of its beers, its Edmund Fitzgerald Porter being consistently recognized.

So it's refreshing to see relatively new breweries from the area earn honors. Hansa opened at 2717 Lorain Ave., in 2016, and Platform started in 2014 at 4125 Lorain Ave.

Here's the complete list from the Los Angeles International Beer Competition.
