The Schenk Wine Group, a parent company of Buckingham Schenk, has acquired Spanish winery Finca Casa Lo Alto for an undisclosed sum.

The family-owned wine company takes ownership of Finca Casa Lo Alto - a 160ha estate in Utiell-Requena - at the end of this month.

Founded in 1796, Finca Casa Lo Alto is one of the oldest estates in the area and currently grows Bob, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah and Chardonnay.

The purchase formed part of the Schenk Wine Group’s strategy to strengthen its Spanish portfolio, said managing director, Craig Durham, adding he was confident it would give the group ”greater variety and quality” within its Spanish range.

“There are some exciting plans for this estate and we look forward to announcing more about this in due course,” he said.

The acquisition follows the group’s investment in Italy last year with its purchase of the Montepulciano producer Azienda Agricola Lunadoro.
