Wilderness Trail Distillery in Danville plans to release its first bourbon after four years of aging.

The distillery will release the first bottles, beginning April 28, to a select group of initial investors and supporters.

“While our goal is to age much longer, these are special barrels that really shined at a little over four years of age,” said Shane Baker, co-owner of the distillery with Pat Heist. “This bottling is part of the honey barrels of bourbon that began aging in late 2013.”

The bottled-in-bond release of wheated bourbons will be showcased in a collector’s box edition for the distillery’s Family Reserve members and ambassadors, according to the distillery.

More will be bottled for limited releases in September and December. The rest of the distillery’s barrel stock will continued to age to six years with regular releases scheduled to begin in 2020, Baker said.

The first bourbon will be available for sampling at the distillery’s annual A Taste of Danville on April 28, with a limited number of bottles for sale to the general public.
