Historic recipes inspire Bashall Spirits’ gin range

Lancashire-based Bashall Spirits has created a London Dry gin and three flavoured expressions inspired by a recipe book dating back to the 1700s.

Bashall Spirits’ three flavoured gins are Orange & Quince Gin, Damson & Elderberry Gin and Parkin Cake Gin. Each has been inspired by recipes that have been “handed down through the generations”.

The brand’s “golden-hued” Parkin Cake Gin is based on a Victorian-era family recipe for the traditional Lancashire bake, and is said to be “rich with treacle and ginger”

Traditional marmalade recipes inspired the Orange & Quince Gin, while the Damson & Elderberry Gin is influenced by ancient fruit wine recipes.

Fiona McNeill, the co-founder of Bashall Spirits, said: “Our family has held these unique handwritten recipe books for centuries, and we wanted to find a way to bring these flavours to life in a contemporary way. This truly is a unique range of gins that showcase Lancashire’s rich heritage of food and drink, our village and the beautiful landscapes which surround it.”

Bashall Spirits has also created a London Dry gin, which takes its botanical cues from the Forest of Bowland in Lancashire. The juniper-forward gin also includes cranberry, elderflower, caraway, and hazelnut as key botanicals.

Each bottled at 40% ABV, the collection has been produced by a partner distiller based in Arbroath, Scotland. Priced at RRP £36.99 (US$48.68) Bashall Spirits’ range of gins is available to both on-trade and off-trade.
