Electric Spirit Co Launches Achroous Gin
Achroous Gin (the name means colourless apparently) comes in a bright orange bottle that’s not short on stand-out.
Official statistics from the Ministry of Made Up Figures show that a new gin launches every five seconds. But not many of them look like this.
Achroous Gin (the name means colourless apparently) comes in a bright orange bottle that’s not short on stand-out.
The liquid is worthy of note too. Though it includes Szechuan Pepper, which could be a bit of a car-crash ingredient, it’s sensitively made, with the flavours neatly integrated.
In fact, while there’s a gentle spiciness to the nose, the palate is more about the faint aniseedy herbal kick of fennel, one of the other key ingredients.
‘Unlike black peppercorns which have a rough, acrid, burn, Szechuan peppercorns have a much more gentle, complex flavour,’ says James Porteous, the Achroous’s creator. ‘I really wanted the gin to have a distinctive aroma, and the woody, floral spice that the peppercorns bring fits the bill perfectly.’
The Gorgeous Group’s Julian de Feral is a fan and since Porteous is currently playing around with a Rotovap we’d expect more good stuff from the Electric Spirit Co in the near future.
