Diablesse Rum launches in UK
Manchester-based Farman & Son has launched a new rum range in the UK, which comprises two expressions: Diablesse Caribbean Rum and Diablesse Clementine Spiced Rum.
Bottled at 40% abv, Diablesse Caribbean Rum is comprised of three liquids: an eight-year-old Bajan rum from Foursquare Distillery; a four-year-old Jamaican copper pot still rum from Worthy Park distillery; and a two-year-old Guyanese rum from the Diamond Distillery, distilled in a 19th-century wooden Enmore pot still – thought to be the only still of its kind in operation today.
The expression has been aged in ex-Bourbon casks and has notes of “chargrilled pineapple and butterscotch with a long, warm peppery finish”.
Diablesse Clementine Spiced Rum (42.3% abv) is a demerara rum from the Diamond Distillery which is ‘naturally” flavored with clementine and Caribbean spices. With a 20% reduction in sugar, the rum is described as a “perfect balance” of zesty clementine with toffee apple and pimento.
Farman and Son were launched by Cleo Farman, the former marketing manager for Richard Branson’s Necker Island. The company’s aim is to “bring quality, authentic rums to the British shores”.
“There are loads more to rum than a Cuba Libra and I’m fed up of gin getting all the attention,” said Farman. “I wanted to create my own rums that are pure, unique and authentic and I’ve well and truly achieved that with Diablesse.”
Diablesse Caribbean Rum is priced at £37 (US$46.56) per 700ml and Diablesse Clementine Spiced Rum has an RRP of £32 (US$40.27) per 700ml.
The range is currently available from Master of Malt, Selfridges and a number of independent wine and spirits retailers across the north-west of England. It is also served in a number of bars across Manchester, including Cottonopolis, Refuge, Wood & Company and Volta.
