Catoctin Creek unveils Día de los Muertos whiskey

Virginia-based distillery Catoctin Creek Distilling Company has teamed up with Adroit Theory Brewing Company to release the second batch of a limited edition American malt whiskey, called Día de los Muertos.

20/06/2019

Adroit Theory’s Día de los Muertos Russian Imperial Stout was aged and distilled by Catoctin Creek for “4.666” years in Minnesota white oak barrels. The first batch, which launched in 2016, was matured for just one year, making batch two the distillery’s oldest whiskey.

Only 147 bottles will be available from the distillery on 6 July, priced at US$159.99 per 750ml. Stocks will be restricted to one bottle per customer. Each bottle will be presented in a custom-made cedar gift box.

Bottled at 46% abv, the whiskey is said to have notes of caramel, chocolate, malt, and honey-rubbed leather.

Scott Harris, Catoctin Creek co-founder, and general manager said: “Due to the terrible angel’s share in Virginia, there was a ton of evaporation on this spirit in the barrel. The good news is that the resulting alcohol is super-concentrated and especially delicious.

“The bad news is we have less to sell. But trust me when I say you’ll want to get your hands on it.”
