Buffalo Trace Reveals 2018 Antique Collection Whiskeys

Buffalo Trace Distillery has unveiled the line-up of its 2018 Antique Collection of whiskeys, including a 17-year-old Eagle Rare Bourbon with a higher abv strength compared to last year’s release.

20/09/2018

First launched in 2000, the Antique Collection offers a range of five whiskeys bottled from rare stocks at the Buffalo Trace Distillery.

The collection for 2018 includes a 2003 George T Stagg, bottled at 62.45% abv, created from 284 barrels. It is said to have flavours of dark chocolate, espresso, and tobacco.

A 2006 William Larue Weller, a wheated Bourbon, also features in the line-up, bottled at 62.85% abv. It has notes of dried fruit, fig, and caramelised vanilla.

Thomas H Handy Sazerac Rye was distilled in spring 2012 and is bottled at 64.4% abv. The straight rye whiskey is said to contain hints of allspice, teaberry, and clove.

Eagle Rare 17 Year Old has been bottled at a higher abv this year of 50.5% in honour of the original strength used when the brand first launched in 1974. The expression is described as having notes of toasted oak, coffee, spearmint, and butterscotch.

Completing the range is Sazerac Rye 18 Year Old, a straight rye whiskey that was filled into barrels in spring 1998. Bottled at 45% abv, the whiskey offers flavours of dark chocolate, tobacco, and cinnamon.
