Alex Lawrence creates whisky for Highballs
Lawrence, global head of bar operations for Mr. Lyan Group, co-founded the Langstane Liquor Company along with Ben Iravani and Josh Rennie. The trio analysed the whisky Highball to create a liquid that would complement the classic long drink.
Made from 100% malted barley, Glasshouse Whisky is said to be “bright and fruity”. It is produced using a combination of both Coffey and pot still distillates from a Highland distillery.
The non-chill-filtered whisky is bottled at 46% ABV and is said to maintain its “body and flavours of rich orchard fruits when served in a Highball”.
“Adding a whisky to our portfolio was something we had always wanted to do, and we feel Glasshouse is perfect for breaking the traditional stereotypes often associated with Scotch,” said Iravani. “The popularity of whisky Highballs is gathering momentum, so we felt it was the perfect time to create a whisky designed specifically for mixing in long drinks that could hold its own and carry full flavours.”
The whisky takes its name from Victorian glasshouses which have been linked to entertaining. Exotic fruits like pineapples were being grown in Scotland in the 1800s, coinciding with the creation of the Coffey still. The whisky’s light and fruity flavour profile is a nod to the country’s “thirst for the fresh and exotic”, according to Langstane Liquor Company.
The design of Glasshouse Whisky features green and pink hues to illustrate the glasshouses of the 19th century.
