Tesco has confirmed the appointment of James Davis as category buying manager for wine, in its beers wine & spirits (BWS) team.

Davis passed the Master of Wine Exam in 2013 and will take up the new role in May. Tesco said he will head up the wine buying team, reporting to Gavin Warburton, UK category director for BWS.

Gavin Warburton said: “James’ broad experience will bring valued skills to the wine team. We look forward to welcoming him and working together to continue to bring excitement, quality and value for money to our customers in the wine aisle.

“We have had to make a number of changes to the team over the last few months so I would like to thank everyone in the BWS team, both those staying on at Tesco, and outgoing members, for all the hard work and professionalism they have shown throughout this time.”

Tesco said the category manager positions for the remaining categories in the BWS team have also been confirmed:

David Coulshed – category buying manager, spirits
Pete Bexton – category buying manager, beer
Chris Gee – category format manager
