NEW ZEALAND LIMONCELLO CAPTURES

ANOTHER INTERNATIONAL AWARD

Sovrano Limoncello, manufacturing Italian liqueur from tiny Skudder's Beach near Kerikeri, New Zealand, continues a remarkable string of success by capturing three more international awards.

The Beverage Tasting Institute in Chicago, USA, recently week awarded Sovrano two gold medals and one platinum medal for their liqueurs in the International Review of Spirits Awards.

  • A gold medal for Sovrano Limoncello Cream. Judges described this limoncello as a “sensationally delicious and pure lemon cream liqueur” and gave it an “exceptional” rating.
  • Also receiving a gold medal, and another exceptional notation, was Sovrano Orangello Liqueur.
  • The platinum award went to Sovrano’s Limoncello Original Liqueur which judges said was “superbly pure”.

The Beverage Tasting Institute uses a dedicated, specially-designed testing laboratory in Chicago to conduct their award tastings and limits the number of tastings in a single day to prevent palate fatigue.  Their judges are professional guest tasters who are either retailers, restaurateurs or prominent writers knowledgeable about the beverage category being reviewed.

These latest awards for Sovrano Limoncello in Kerikeri follow on from the success of their cream limoncello winning gold, and the original limoncello winning silver, at the Sip Awards earlier this year and accompany a long list of competition success going back five years.

In 2010 the company won their first Gold Medal from the Testing Institute in Chicago, scoring 95 points out of a possible 100 for their '95 limoncello and the '94 cream limoncello.

Since then they have chalked up an impressive 17 awards from internationally-recognized tasting competitions in Chicago, San Francisco, London and Florida, thus essentially beating home-based Italians at their own respectable game.

"Brilliant hazy light gold color. Bright, citrusy aromas or orange and tangerine and honey with a glycerous, moderately body and a tingling, compelling medium-long simple syrup, minerals, and pepper finish. A vivacious and mouthwatering orange liqueur that will be great on its own or in cocktails."
