South Africa takes on Australia in new Tri Nations Wine Challenge

South African wines took on the might of Australia at the latest of the Tri Nations Wine Challenges in Cape Town

16/01/2017

On a visit to South Africa three years ago Roger Jones came up with an idea to highlight the wines from his three favourite wine countries, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand. Given his Michelin Star status he also decided to throw some culinary finesse into the concept. And that’s how the Tri Nations Wine Challenges was born.

The format of the Tri Nations Wine Challenges is fairly straightforward.

Six courses are served with two blind matching wines at each course. Up to 80 consumers vote on their favourite wines, with the result announced after each course, the events are hosted home, away and at a neutral venue ( The Harrow at Little Bedwyn). To date the scores have been identical in each country.

On Friday night the latest round was hosted at The Vineyard Hotel in Cape Town, with South Africa wining 4:2. South Africa are currently at the top of the table, the next event is being held at Craggy Range in Hawkes Bay on Tuesday 7th February and will involve South Africa and New Zealand.
