Foothills Brewing Ranks Among National Leaders in Craft Beer Sales for 2013

Strong sales of Hoppyum IPA put Winston-Salem brewery in elite company

19/03/2014 March 17, 2014 – By any measure, it was a good year for Foothills Brewing. One of the top providers of craft beer in the southeastern U.S., Foothills is one of only 12 beer vendors in the country that achieved greater than $1MM in new product dollar sales in 2013. That list is headed by Anheuser-Busch InBev and MillerCoors Brewing, and includes craft beer stalwarts Boston Beer Company and New Belgium Brewing Company. Foothills’ 2013 success occurred largely on the strength of Hoppyum IPA 6-packs, which, according to Chicago-based marketing research firm IRI, was the 5th-best selling new craft beer bottle 6-pack in the entire country, and the 8th-best selling new package overall. That accomplishment is especially impressive given the beers listed with Hoppyum, most of which enjoy national distribution. Foothills currently distributes to four states and Washington D.C. “We continue to enjoy the good fortune of a dedicated following,” said Jamie Bartholomaus, president and brewmaster at Foothills. “It’s those loyal customers who have stayed with us over the years that keep our beer in high demand.” Sales Director Rob Ulick agreed, adding, “Our brands have prospered with the hard work and support of our wholesale and retail business partners. The relationships we’ve developed with them over the last year have really energized our company and our brands.” About Foothills Brewing Foothills Brewing began in 2004 in Winston-Salem, NC, and has evolved into one of the top craft brewing operations in the southeast United States. Ranked among ratebeer.com’s 100 best breweries in the world, Foothills has garnered numerous awards for their beers, including seven Great American Beer Festival medals and three World Cup Beer medals, more than any other North Carolina-based brewery. Foothills brews more than twenty year-round and seasonal offerings, including best sellers Hoppyum IPA and Carolina Blonde. Year-round brands also include People’s Porter, Torch Pilsner and Jade IPA; seasonals include Cottonwood Pumpkin and the highly anticipated Sexual Chocolate Imperial Stout. Foothills, Cottonwood and Carolina brands are distributed by a network of top-level distributors in North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and Washington D.C. In January 2011 Foothills acquired the Carolina and Cottonwood beer brands, adding to an already extensive portfolio of beer styles. In December 2011 Foothills expanded their brewing operations from their popular brewpub in downtown Winston-Salem to a 50,000 square-foot facility in southern Winston-Salem, allowing for increased development of six-pack and 22-oz. bottle production. 2013 saw the addition of four 200 BBL fermenting tanks, increasing potential brewing capacity to approximately 40,000 barrels annually. Further expansion is planned for Summer 2014. For more information about Foothills visit foothillsbrewing.com
