6-LITRE MACALLAN TO OPEN SOTHEBY’S 2014 SEASON

A six-litre imperial of Macallan “M”, rare Burgundy from Armand Rousseau and an ex-cellar collection of Veuve Clicquot will kickstart Sotheby’s 2014 season in Hong Kong.

17/12/2013

The sale will take place on 18 January next year and is expected to raise HK$17 – HK$25 million (US$2-$3.2m).

It will be the first and only time that the Macallan “M” decanter is to be offered in public.

The “M” is a collaboration between the Scotch producer, founder of Baron & Baron, Fabien Baron and Lalique’s CEO, Silvio Denz.

Only four have been made, two have been archived by the Macallan and the third has been committed to a private collection in Asia.

Weighing 11.3kg it is the largest decanter ever made by Lalique and is valued at HK$2-4m. The proceeds will go to benefit charities in Hong Kong.

Other highlights of the sale will include Bordeaux dating back to 1945 and Rhône, Italian, Port, Californian and Australian wines.

Highlights include 1945, 1961 and 1982 Mouton, 1983 Yquem and a vertical of 1981 and 1982 Bollinger’s Vieilles Vignes Françaises.
