In the month of December, sour brewery New Braunfels Brewing Co shipped 130 cases and 55 kegs to two new distribution partners outside of Texas.

“This signals the beginning of our expansion project for 2018. We are in negotiations with 3 additional distribution partners and hope to have those agreements in place as early as late January.” Says Kelly Meyer who co-owns the brewery with his wife, Lindsey. “The markets of Portland and LA are extremely important to us because of the popularity of sour beers there and the opportunity to pour our beer alongside some of the greatest beers in the country.”

The brewery completed expansion into the major cities of Texas in 2017 with a partnership in DFW, Austin and East Texas with FullClip Craft Distributors. They also distribute their artistic beers in Houston, San Antonio, Corpus Christi, College Station and Fredericksburg.

“We purposefully don’t make beer that appeals to the BudLight drinker.” Explains Nathan Rice, head brewer. “Our beer is complex, tart and focuses on dynamic flavors. A lot of people aren’t going to come around to the art we produce and there’s nothing wrong with that. On the other hand, some of the more mature craft beer markets around the country not only appreciate the style of beer we produce but literally line up for it.”

Portland, Oregon is well-known as one of the most diverse and prolific beer cities in the country, many times referred to as BeerVana. When a market is as crowded as Portland, it can be challenging for a brewery to find a distribution partner simply because distributors already have many examples of the styles the brewery produces in their portfolio.
