Lion begins construction of its $20million NZ brewery for craft brand Little Creatures this month.

The Little Creatures development will occupy an old aircraft hangar at Hobsonville Point, north of Auckland. The company spent five years searching for the perfect site for the brewery, which will also house a restaurant, fish & chip shop and gelato bar.

In addition to the regular Little Creatures products, the micro-brewery will produce a specially-brewed beer for the region and small batch, short-run brews.

Rory Glass, Managing Director of Lion New Zealand, told the New Zealand Herald it will be Lion's first craft brewery in Auckland.

"We're excited to build a venue that will showcase this great brand, and introduce it to a wider audience of beer lovers here in Auckland," Glass said.

"Consumers are telling us that they want places where they can bring the kids, have a meal and enjoy a craft beer. Little Creatures Catalina Bay is going to tick all those boxes."
