The run up to Christmas is in full swing (yes it is) and as the clock struck 7pm on Wednesday at Bath’s Christmas market, more than 200 bottles of Bath Ales’ Sulis Christmas festive beer were handed out to the crowds by the local brewer.

The limited-edition brew is a block style lager, a warming festive beer with hints of sweet biscuits, malty flapjacks and honey (right up our street), and comes in at 5.6% abv.

The brewery’s Lodge at this year’s market is being run in association with Framptons, the team behind the city’s acclaimed bar and restaurant. As well as a well-stocked bar, with Bath Ales’ award-winning ales, there was mulled wine and cider and a food offering.

‘Having brewed this beer it was great fun to join in the celebrations and make a toast to Christmas Sulis on the Christmas market locals’ night,’ said Darren James, senior brewer at Bath Ales.

‘For the launch of Christmas Sulis, we drew inspiration from the famous J-Day celebrations in Denmark, when an annual festive brew is launched with much anticipation and celebration. We’ve put our own Bath twist on our version which is inspired by Aqua Sulis, the old Roman name of the city.’
