Wines by Geoff Hardy

Looking For Importer in USA

geoff

An expression of excellence in South Australian Wine Making. The Hand Crafted wines are made from parcels of hand-selected, premium fruit from the family's vineyards around South Australia.

The wines might be expressions of a single vineyard or regional blends, and make up one of the broadest and most exciting ranges of alternate and emerging varieties in Australia.

Geoff (Image on left) completed his diploma in Wine Production in 1977 and started working with his family's 160-year old wine business, Thomas Hardy and Sons.

After purchasing the Pertaringa Vineyard in McLaren Vale with fellow viticulturist Ian Leask in 1980, Geoff finally found his ideal site for the production of cool climate grapes in 1987 at Kuitpo in the southern Adelaide Hills. Today, this vineyard together with other family vineyards in Langhorne Creek and on the Limestone Coast are behind the single vineyard or regional blends in the Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy range of wines.

K1 by Geoff Hardy

In 1980, Geoff Hardy left the then family company, Thomas Hardy & Sons, to make his own way in the Australian wine world. In 1987, he finally found his ideal site for the production of outstanding cool climate grapes in the Adelaide Hills.

The vineyard became known as the K1 Vineyard as this unique, groundbreaking site was the first commercial planting of vines in the Kuitpo (pronounced 'ky-po') region.

Today, like his great-great grandfather, Thomas Hardy, Geoff continues to push the boundaries of Australian viticulture in his single estate K1 by Geoff Hardy wines. He and his family also continue their work to make sure that the K1 Cellar Door maintains its reputation as one of Australia's leading cellar door experiences.

Pinot Noir 2013

Adelaide Hills cool climate Pinot Noir has long been regarded as the best S.A. can produce. The K1 vines are of low yield and are pruned to arched canes for extra light interception on the fruit and optimum balance. Hand harvesting the fruit ensures that the grapes are in top condition for their traditional vinification.
Pair with a local favorite such as wild duck or enjoy a glass or two with family and friends.
Further cellaring of 5-10 years will bring out the savoury and earthy characters synonymous with high-quality Pinots.

Cellaring: Drink now or to 2020
Variety: 100% Pinot Noir, clones D5V12, D4V2 & Mariafeld.
Region: 100% K1 Vineyard
Harvest: Handpicked mid March

Middle Hill Shiraz 2012

The Middle Hill Shiraz is sourced from the 'middle hill' of the K1 vineyard, a picturesque sandstone ridge producing elegant, spicy, cool climate style Shiraz.
The nose shows beautiful ripe plum, stewed rhubarb and apple pie with hints of black pepper, coffee and chocolate.
The palate starts off with white pepper followed by blackberry and mulberry aromas. This wine is medium-bodied with a silky mouth feel and well integrated tannins.
The Middle Hill Shiraz is an easy drinking, food friendly and well balanced Shiraz. Try it with dishes such as caramelised pork belly with sticky rice and Asian greens.
Although drinking really well at the moment, this wine will age beautifully for up to 6 years.

Cellaring: Drink now or to 2018
Variety: Shiraz
Region: 100% K1 Vineyard
