The Story of Paracombe Wines
Distinctive, handcrafted wines from the Paracombe Vineyard and Winery uniquely placed on a small plateau in the picturesque Adelaide Hills of South Australia.
Paul and Kathy Drogemuller established Paracombe Wines in 1983 following the devastating Ash Wednesday bushfires. Their vineyard and winery is uniquely located high on a plateau at Paracombe with spectacular views of the Mount Lofty ranges.
Low yields, minimal irrigation and hand pruning ensure only the best grape flavour and quality. This is backed up by specialised care with maturation in the underground cellars to create truly handcrafted award winning wines gaining recognition within Australia and internationally.
Paul and Kathy share a commitment to produce distinctive wines displaying finesse and varietal intensity. Their specialised range includes limited release sparkling wines, fresh crisp whites and rich, spicy reds for enjoyment on every occasion.
Paracombe wines are proudly handcrafted by Paul and Kathy in the vineyard and the winery. Their wines are made to enjoy, by two people who are passionate about what they do.
Our Vineyards
The Paracombe vineyard and winery is located high on a plateau at Paracombe in the Adelaide Hills of South Australia. Paul and Kathy Drogemuller established Paracombe Wines in 1983 following the Ash Wednesday bushfires.
The property, a former dairy farm was totally ravaged by the bushfire, despite the devastation, Paul and Kathy could see great potential as a vineyard site and commenced plantings which has grown to close to 16 hectares today. Together with hard work and vision they designed and built a fully operational winery with facility to crush around 1000 tonnes of fruit.
The Drogemuller’s Paracombe vineyard lies 425 metres above sea level. Soil is lean with ironstone, buckshot gravel and quartz, an interesting remnant from an ancient riverbed. These characters along with minimal irrigation contribute a strong influence in wine style and flavour.
