Log in to ContactSituated on an alluvial boulder ridge in the Masterton district of Wairarapa. With warm free draining soils and the cool dry local climate this is an ideal place to grow Pinot noir. A vibrant juicy Pinot Noir with lifted cherry and plum aromas, a smooth fleshy palate and hints of spicy oak. Excellent with a range of dishes including smoked salmon, lamb chops or Venison Casserole.
Vineyard.
The fruit for this wine is from our home vineyard at Masterton, an ancient river terrace in the rain shadow of the Tararua ranges. The vineyard is planted in eight different clones of Pinot Noir, which all contribute complexity to this wine. The cool dry climate and naturally low yields consistently give clean ripe fruit with vibrant varietal character.
Winery
The grapes were harvested by clonal selection and fermented in small open top fermenters. A range of stem inclusion, yeast and cap management techniques were used to gently extract flavour and tannins and express the vibrant fruit. Once pressed the young wines underwent malolactic fermentation and aging in barrels and tanks, before blending and preparation for bottling.
