Reopening Of Pennsylvania’s Government-Run Liquor Stores Will Not Stop Demand & Need For Reform
Though hundreds of state-run liquor stores across Pennsylvania are now accepting phone orders, the Keystone State government liquor monopoly is only doing a fraction its pre-pandemic business.
According to Forbes, As a result of Governor Tom Wolf’s (D-Pa.) emergency order issued more than a month and a half ago, government-run liquor stores remain closed in Pennsylvania, the only state in the country where this is the case. It’s estimated this decision has cost the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board (PLCB) more than $200 million in less than two months, not to mention the hassle imposed on residents seeking the beverage of their choice.
Though hundreds of state-run liquor stores across Pennsylvania are now accepting phone orders, the Keystone State government liquor monopoly is only doing a fraction its pre-pandemic business. Sales data from this past week shows transactions are down more than 75% from pre-virus levels.
