Sullivans Cove to Release First Brandy

Tasmanian whisky producer Sullivans Cove has moved into brandy with the launch of a limited-edition expression, called Sullivans Cove XO.

10/04/2018

Sullivans Cove XO is made with wines from the Huon Valley region. It has been distilled in the same way as Sullivans Cove’s single malt whiskies, and aged in either French or American oak barrels.

The first release of Sullivans Cove XO, cask TDB0040, was matured in a 300-liter American oak ex-tawny barrel for nine years.

It is made from a blend of Tasmanian Sauvignon Blanc, Gewurztraminer, and Chardonnay.

“After years of distilling whisky, the opportunity to work with quality Tasmanian wine was really exciting for us,” said head distiller Patrick Maguire.

“We’ve waited a long time to see the results, and we couldn’t be happier with the quality and complexity of these brandies.”

The brandy will be released in two different styles – XO Single Cask and XO Double Cask. Only a few hundred bottles of each expression will be available.

XO Single Cask will be non-chill-filtered and unblended, while XO Double Cask is expected later this year and will be crafted using traditional vatting techniques.

Sullivans Cove XO, cask TDB0040, will be available exclusively to members of the Sullivans Cove mailing list prior to public release. The expression is priced at A$280.00 (US$214.50) per 700ml bottle.

A small number of bottles will also be available from the distillery in Tasmania.
