Last Drop Distillers Unveils Glenrothes 1968

Rare whisky bottler The Last Drop Distillers has released a limited edition Glenrothes single malt, which was distilled in 1968.

04/07/2018

The Glenrothes 1968 is the company’s second single malt release and comprises two single casks.

The first cask is limited to 168 bottles, while the second made 141, totaling 309 bottles for the entire release.

Both casks are described as having a “rich almost syrupy sweetness enlivened with zesty spicy notes and a cooling, mentholic after-taste”.

Whisky writer Charles Maclean describes the first cask as “a slight prickle on the nose and a complex, mellow aroma which is at once fruity and herbal – crystallised greengages, dusty dried mixed herbs – with an elusive whiff of scented smoke, a trace of cigar boxes and after a while a hint of candle wax.”

On the second, he said it has a “mellow nose-feel, with slight prickle after a while.

“The highly perfumed initial aroma – scented hand-cream, attar of roses, carnations – reduce in time, infused by notes of almond oil and oak shavings, with a trace of vanilla. A drop of water enhances the wood notes.”

Each bottle is presented in a red leather case with a 50ml miniature. It comes with a tasting book which has additional blank pages for extra notes.

About Last Drop Distillers

The Last Drop Distillers has been created by three true spirits pioneers who between then have created some of the world’s most well-known spirits brands, such as Johnnie Walker Blue Label, Chivas Regal 18-Year-Old, the Classic Malts… The aim of The Last Drop is simple, but by no means easy: to find, and bottle, for the delectation of friends and connoisseurs alike, the world’s finest, rarest and most exclusive spirits.

They seek out precious ‘last drops’ of
some of the oldest and most perfect spirits in existence. They offer only such articles we think are unique, extremely limited in quantity, and, of course, exceptionally delicious. In short, the kind of experience, on the eye, the nose, and the palate, that only comes to most people once in a lifetime.
