On the eve of the historic agreement between Anheuser-Busch InBev and SABMiller to merge into the world’s first mega brewer, U.S. beer wholesalers met at its annual convention to celebrate the value of an open and independent distribution system.

The National Beer Wholesalers Association (NBWA) kicked off the first day of its 78th annual convention yesterday in Las Vegas, Nev.

NBWA’s outgoing Chairman of the Board Eric Best described the opportunity that America’s independent beer distribution system offers, saying, “The three-tier system offers opportunity for American consumers to enjoy the largest selection of beer anywhere in the world. It provides to have all of this robust competition and business growth while balancing it with public safety and consumer protection.”

NBWA President and CEO Craig Purser highlighted how distributors can prepare for the future, especially in a dynamic industry operating in a marketplace “evolving right before our eyes.”
