Harriet Tubman became an American hero by helping escaped slaves find their way to freedom. Now, she's going to have her name on a beer.

The Prison City Pub & Brewery, located in Tubman's adopted hometown of Auburn, is making the draft-only,limited release beer to honor Tubman and mark the upcoming Harriet Tubman Freedom Music Festival.

The beer is an American-style fruit beer called Harriet Tubman Strawberry Ale. It will debut at 5 p.m. July 12, at the brewpub, 28 State St. in Auburn. The music fest follows from 6 to 10 p.m. that day on State Street.

Prison City owners Dawn and Marc Schulz, along with head brewer Ben Maeso,  have created and named several beers in honor of Auburn's history and historic sites and events. They include Seward's Folly (for the William Seward House), Capt. Myles Keogh Kolsch (for the annual Great Race), Double Day's First Base (for the local minor league baseball team) and Copper John (for the 200th Anniversary of the Auburn Correctional Facility & 2017 Founder's Day).

"We are beyond honored to partner with (Tubman music fest founder) Sean McLeod to brew and debut this special beer for the Harriet Tubman Freedom Music Festival and to add Harriet Tubman Strawberry Ale to this series as our way to pay tribute to her and her incredible life," Dawn Schulz said in a news release. "As we understand it, she loved strawberries, so Ben Maeso, head brewer, is making a blended ale that is fermented on strawberries; his first time using this fruit."
