Armenia is one of the world's earliest grape growing and processing societies: Armenian winemaking dates back at least 6000 years. Industrial wine production began in Armenia in the 1870s. During the Soviet period winemaking in Armenia developed to a great extent, but the disintegration of the Soviet Union led to a temporary collapse in the industrial winemaking. In 2001 having founded the wine factory in Aghavnadzor village, Vayots Dzor region Matevosyan family started producing wine. Vayots Dzor is the largest grape growing and processing center in the country and is famous for its grapes of Areni sort. The company owns 80,000 square meters of vineyards that are located in Aghavnadzor village, 1500 meters above sea level in the mountains. The firm produces dry, semi-dry and semi-sweet red wines. The company uses modern facilities and traditional methods in wine production. The company has earned the image of a high-quality wine producer and customer loyalty in the Armenian and foreign markets. “Matevosyan Wine” won a number of awards, as the wine produced by the company meets all the international standards.
