Waimea Estates founders, Trevor and Robyn Bolitho planted their first vines in 1993 on the stony alluvial Waimea Plains in our beautiful Nelson region.
In 1997 the first of our Waimea wines was crafted and our very first wine, our 1997 Waimea Sauvignon Blanc received the trophy for 'Best Sauvignon Blanc' at the Winestate Australasian Wine Awards.
Fast forward 20 years and after 27 trophies and over 150 gold medals, Waimea Estates is now owned by Booster Tahi - a New Zealand Kiwisaver Superannuation company helping Kiwis to grow their businesses and manage their wealth. Waimea Estates is now managed by Louis Vavasour of Awatere River Wine Company, our sister wine company in Marlborough.
Trevor and Robyn’s son Ben joined the company full time in 2001 after completing his engineering apprenticeship and building many of the winery tanks and equipment. He then undertook his viticulture qualification and developed a great passion for viticulture. Since 2010 he has been Waimea's Chief Viticulturist/General Manager and remains with the company to this day.
