n 1863 the Florop family established a company in comestibles at Maastrichter Brugstraat number 30, in the center of Maastricht. Soon Florop, due to its location in the center of Maastricht and the special assortment, became well-known in Maastricht and surroundings and the range was extended with wines from France.

In the beginning of the twentieth century, Maison Florop, since there was no succession of the Florop family, was taken over by Mrs Anna Maria Smits-Beunen, who had been working at Maison Florop for some time. Together with her husband, work was done on expansion, both in the number of articles offered for sale and in the services offered to the clientele. 

Due to the steady growth of the company, a new and larger location was being considered. Found in the same street and in 1920 moved Maison Florop to the Maastrichter Brugstraat number 14, where in addition to a larger store with a wide presentation of the offered goods and services, sufficient warehouses were present to meet the large demand.
