Vines and Wines: Wineries start reopening by selling food and wine together

Turtle Rock Ridge Vineyard Winery will offer food catered by Marinade on Main restaurant starting June

05/06/2020

According to the sandiegouniontribune, Wineries in Ramona can start to follow the lead of other wineries in California that are reopening under limited conditions, namely by serving food with their wines.

Ramona Valley Vineyard Association (RVVA) President Susanne Sapier said she and other winery association presidents, including those in Paso Robles and Lodi, recently signed a letter sent on behalf of the Wine Institute to the state urging leaders to put wineries in the stage 3 reopening phase.

But while San Diego County is currently in stage 2 of a state reopening roadmap, Sapier said some wineries can sell wine through food trucks or caterers on their premises in addition to selling sealed bottles of wine. Under these situations, food trucks and caterers who are licensed to sell alcohol will accept wine orders, collect payment and take a percentage of sales before passing on the proceeds to the participating winery.
