Wilderness Trail Distillery to Release 1st Bottled in Bond Single Barrel Bourbon
The Wilderness Trail Distillery bottled in bond bourbon is a sweat mash wheated bourbon. The mashbill for this single barrel release is 64% corn, 24% wheat, 12% malted barley.
Distillers and Co-Founders Shane Baker and Patrick Heist of Wilderness Trail Distillery in Danville, Kentucky, have always maintained they would not release their bourbon until it qualified as Bottled in Bond and, to their credit, they’ve stuck by that rule. That’s not to say they don’t offer a younger rum and vodka, that’s just to say that they’ve always said their bourbon will be Bottled in Bond. Well folks, that magical four year period is here and their four year old BIB bourbon is set to be released.
“While our goal is to age much longer, these are special barrels that really shined at a little over four years of age,” says Shane Baker. “This bottling is part of the honey barrels of Bourbon that began aging in late 2013.”

Our Family Reserve loyalty members will be rewarded with the first numbered bottles encased in a special collector’s box from a release of only 40 barrels. The limited release of our Single Barrel, Bottled in Bond, Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey in 2018 will be spread out among our loyal ambassadors and key partners in the market,” said Baker.
The release of their first bourbon will coincide with, “A Taste of Danville,” on April 28, 2018 at the distillery. The event will include live music, food offerings and of course craft spirits. Participating area chefs, restaurants, caterers and food trucks will offer their signature dishes. As part of the celebration, the gift shop will have the Bottled in Bond Bourbon for sale to the general public. Pricing for this release is expected to be $45 per 750 ml bottle.
Baker says, “The remainder of our barrel stock will continue to age to six years before we start our regular releases in 2020.”
