Martell bottles one-off $40k Cognac

Cognac house Martell has unveiled a one-of-a-kind bottling, called Martell Metaphore, priced at US$40,000.

The one-off expression uses Eaux-de-vie from 1898, alongside three other Eaux-de-vie aged from 1911 to 1920.

The resulting Cognac is described as “an invitation to explore the heart of the Grande Champagne terroir”.

On the palate, Martell Metaphor is said to have “notes of red fruits, almonds, and pecans”.

The Cognac is presented in a case that has been designed to reflect the countryside and geography of the Grand Champagne region.

Thierry Drevelle, the cabinet maker who created the presentation case, described the packaging as “a design that embodies the house’s values, between earth and sky, oak and time”.

Martell Metaphor was offered for sale at this year’s Masters of Wines and Spirits event, held at the Warehouse Hotel in Singapore in March.
