The Asia Wine Ratings looks to recognize, reward and help promote wine brands that have successfully been created to identify with and target a specific wine drinker. For any wine brand to earn its place on a retailer’s shelf or a restaurant’s wine list - and then vitally stay there - they need to be marketable and consumer-driven and not just produced in the general hope it can find enough people willing to sell and buy it.
That is why the Asia Wine Ratings is different. It will single out and shine the spotlight on those wine brands that consumers really want to buy and have a clear market value for trade buyers.
A competition that will judge wines in three key areas:
- Their quality.
- Their value for money.
- What they look like.
To be an award winner you will need to have a top-quality wine, that offers both the trade and the consumer great value for money, and you will need to look good and truly stand out on the shelf and on the back bar.
Scoring Definitions
Quality: Quality will be assessed based on how agreeable the wine is for its target customer and chemical analysis. Measure quality considering the following characteristics of the beverage: Appearance, Aroma, Body, Taste, and Aftertaste.
Value: The objective is to understand how well a particular wine is priced, the greater the quality offered for the price, the greater the value score will be.
Packaging: Packaging will be measured by how well judges think the wine will be perceived by the consumer. The package will be judged for the Off-Premise market considering factors like label design and information, closure, and overall look. This does not involve boxes, cartons, and bags. It is how they think the product will be perceived when placed on a wine shelf amongst thousands of other wines.

Each submission to Asia Wine Rating is assigned a unique reference number to ensure complete anonymity during evaluation. Wines are first blind-tasted and scored independently on Quality and Value, allowing judges to focus solely on the wine’s intrinsic merits without any brand influence. After this phase, bottles are presented together so the panel can assess Packaging, considering how effectively the design communicates appeal, authenticity, and commercial potential in the Asian market.
Scoring is based on a weighted system: Quality carries double weight to reflect its importance, while Value and Packaging are equally considered in the overall score. Specifically, wines are rated out of 100 points in each category—Quality, Value, and Package—and combined as follows: Q + V + P = Asia Wine Ratings Score. Judges’ scores are averaged to create a final result, which determines medal awards and helps buyers quickly identify wines that deliver excellence on every level.
To make the most of your participation, we encourage all brands to enter and ship their samples as early as possible. Early registration not only secures lower entry fees but also gives you ample time to coordinate logistics and ensure your products arrive safely for judging.
