Domaine de l’Amandine is a dream come true. Jean Pierre Verdeau always wanted to build a winery right where he was born – in the village of Séguret in the Southern Rhône. Descended from four generations of winegrowers, Jean Pierre learned the trade at an early age. Once he married and acquired land, he began the hard work of building his estate in 1968. With little financial resources and technical know-how, he taught himself everything from masonry to steelwork. With the help of his wife Maryse and four children, he built their home, wine cellar and storage tanks. He also grew his own rootstock, grafted his own grape varieties, tended to the vines and built the family brand. Today, two new generations also work on the 120-acre estate. Jean Pierre found a partner in his son-in-law, Alex Suter. Alex grew up on one of South Africa’s best know wine estates, Rustenburg in Stellenbosch. After leaving school, he travelled to Europe to hone his craft and met his wife, Sabine, working in a bakery in Gigondas. 25 years and three children later (including Mathilde, who currently works on the estate), they are proud to continue the tradition this dynamic winery and win recognition in international wine market. Jean Pierre, Alex, and Mathilde run the grape production and Laurent Durieux is the domaine’s winemaker. What makes our wine so special? The diverse “terroirs” of Domaine de l’Amandine vineyards, from rocky hillside terraces to alluvial clay/limestone mix combined with Jean Pierre’s intimate knowledge of how each vine produces within that “terroir” means the grapes are always picked at their optimum ripeness. Controlled fermentations and long macerations give our whites finesse and freshness and our reds – spices, body and character.
