Angels Gate Winery Limited was formed in 2001 with the sole purpose of producing high quality wines that offered exceptional value The winery opened in 2002 and enjoys one of the most beautiful views in all of Niagara. Our “mission” style building was designed by a local architect and commemorates the Congregation of Christian Sisters who once owned the property. The intimacy of the surrounding vineyards combined with the long views of Lake Ontario and the Toronto skyline make Angels Gate a must see for anyone visiting Niagara wine country. Angels Gate has grown rapidly over the last 13 years. Today we own 190 acres of vineyards including some of the oldest and most prominent vineyards in the Niagara region. Our grape varieties include Chardonnay, Riesling, Gewurztraminer, Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Gris, Merlot, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Shiraz. Our success over the last decade comes from our philosophy that great wines start in the vineyards. Meticulous care consistently produces the best fruit which is then carefully fermented and patiently aged to ensure that we deliver wines of the highest quality. More than 120 medals stands as a testament to our approach. Wine making at Angels Gate is handled by our “All-Australian” wine making team lead by head winemaker Philip Dowell. Philip joined Angles Gate in January 2007 and brings to Angels Gate more than 25 years of extensive winemaking experience. Prior to Angels Gate, Philip worked for such prominent companies as Cold Stream Hills, Moet et Chandon and Inniskillin. Joining Philip in the winemaking duties are our Assistant Winemaker, Tim Wilson and our lab technician, Levi de Loryn. In addition to producing high end table wines, Angels Gate specializes in the production of sparkling wine utilizing the traditional method. We believe that Canadian sparkling wines are some of the best in the world due to our climate and the quality of the Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes grown in our region. Today, Angels Gate produces about 35,000 cases of wine annually. Our wines are sold through liquor stores in Canada, United States, China, Korea and Taiwan.
