Karwig Wines was founded by Joe Karwig in 1979. Originally from Bremen in Germany, Joe arrived in Cork over thirty years ago with the aim of bringing the wines of his homeland to the south of Ireland. He set up one of the first wine shops in Cork.  Built upon his passion and enthusiasm for quality wines, Karwig Wines now caters for restaurants, hotels, pubs, corporate companies, and private customers.

Joe passed away in October 2016, but his legacy for quality wines has continued on with his wife Betty and son Jurgen. Together they strive to continue Joe's philosophy:  "Life is too short to drink boring wine!"

At Karwig Wines, we specialize in selected and estate bottled wines from all over the world and have built up an impressive list of over 500 wines. Our wines are stocked by top Irish restaurants and some wines are available in select retail outlets and various wine shops around the country. Joe reserved a special place for Riesling, which he regarded as the "best white grape in the world".
