Description
The Nauticus Sauvignon Blanc is a symphony composed of different vineyard sites and winemaking components. The early pick retains natural acidity and freshness. 15% of the wine was aged in barrels which offers complexity and texture to the core. Additionally, 15% was fermented in a concrete egg vessel which accentuated the mineral notes on the palate as well as the nose. The influence of the cool ocean breeze and summer sun promotes a beautiful balance of citrus and white fruit, with a delicious lingering salty finish.
Tasting Note:
The Nauticus 2024 exemplifies the best of cool-climate Sauvignon Blanc. This pale straw-coloured wine greets the nose with vibrant aromas of green apple, zesty citrus and a flinty minerality. On the palate, these flavours are complemented by intriguing notes of exotic fruit, while extended lees contact in concrete eggs imparts a fuller mouthfeel. The wine's coastal origins shine through in a distinctively saline finish, creating a harmonious balance between freshness and complexity. This Sauvignon Blanc deftly combines the variety's characteristic vibrancy with a unique textural depth, offering a truly memorable tasting experience.
Ageing Potential:
3 to 5 years

About this company
Hasher Family Estate is a family-owned farm in South Africa’s sought after Upper Hemel-en-Aarde Valley. Founded by the Herten-Haspeslagh family, the farm represents the coming together of centuries of European farming heritage with a lifelong passion for Africa. Run by a young and passionate team, the farm proudly produces exceptional wines that celebrate the cool maritime climate and unique soil the area has become known for. Planted on decomposed granite and clay soils, our vineyards benefit from the cooling influence of the South Atlantic Ocean, barely 5 kilometers away. We want the character of our grapes to tell the story of our terroir and therefore believe in growing only the cultivars that truly flourish in the area, resulting in a focus on Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. We’ve also introduced regenerative agriculture principles and winter pruning techniques to further improve the quality of the fruit. This year, we’ve officially moved away from chemical fertilizers and herbicides.
