Category: Winery
Country: United Kingdom
Date:28/07/2014
Bolney Wine Estate was founded by Rodney and Janet Pratt in 1972. Starting with 3 acres, the vineyard has expanded vastly over the years and now stands at 39 acres. Rodney and Janet’s daughter, Sam Linter, is now Head Winemaker and Managing Director. Sam took the reins in the 1990s and is now ably assisted by Assistant Winemaker Liz Garrett, who returned from a vintage at Cloudy Bay in 2013. Both are graduates of the esteemed Plumpton College in East Sussex, England. Bolney Wine Estate is situated on the outskirts of a small village called Bolney, 14 miles due north of Brighton in West Sussex, England. The vineyards are south-facing and surround a state-of-the-art winery that was built in 2005. The Estate was awarded the International Wine & Spirit Competition UK Wine Producer of the Year in November 2012. The soil type found in Bolney Wine Estate is the Upper Tunbridge Wells Sand – consisting of sandy-loam, siltstone and clay over sandstone bedrock – similar to the famous Montagne de Reims region of Champagne!
